Notes about the Beacons, software and Long-term monitoring

G4ZFQ's Main site index Other monitoring processes, personal etc.

Notes on keeping computer time correct, prolonged monitoring can result in the clock being a long way out.

Notes about testing soundcards, running more than one soundcard (and two instances of the Beacon program!)

Some notes on using a remote Long-term monitoring computer and a beginner's notes on using "Excel"

Notes about "Chirpview" another monitoring program and GPS modules.

* Nick, G4IRX's page of almost real time Beacon Monitoring around the UK * Including my uploaded data.

http://g4irx.nowindows.net/fivemegs/ G4IRX  Read about how he does it, and the software he uses! This is  a really good demonstration of what can be done if you know how! (Or have the perseverance to learn.)

Comparisons GB3RAL and G4JNT with Vertical/horizontal antennas.  G4JNT at 16 miles away was testing the two new beacons.

Charts  may be prepared from .LOG file using Excel. If anyone has Excel I can provide my crude .xls file and some guidance from knowledge I have gained by fumbling around with tips given by others.  The Beacon Monitoring program V2 has a different .LOG format.  I  have modified the .xls.  Details at the bottom of this page

The free Open Office suite http://www.openoffice.org/  has a spreadsheet if you do not have Excel. But it is a 90MB download, and you'll have to work out how to use it! It looks similar to Excel.

Distance between IO90IR & IO91IN (GB3RAL)  is 92.67 km (57.583 miles), (From http://www.chris.org/cgi-bin/finddis ) With each square 10Km. sides these figures could be +/- about 14Km...........(approx +/- 8.6994345 miles!).
